Electric Bigfoot No. 20: The World's First All-Electric Monster Truck

When most people think of electric cars, the image of a monster truck likely doesn’t come to mind. However, that’s exactly what was unveiled at this week’s Vancouver Auto Show – the Odyssey Battery Bigfoot No. 20 Monster Truck, the world’s first fully electric monster truck.

While the electric monster truck may not revolutionize the monster truck world, its release is expected to generate interest in electric vehicles (EVs) and introduce them to a broader audience. The innovative electric system is designed to showcase the potential of EV technology, even in the world of high-performance motorsports. The truck’s DC motor was custom-built by Dennis Berube from Electrified Motorsports, and it’s equipped with an impressive 30 Battery/360 Volt PowerPack system, offering variable speed control, high horsepower, and exceptional RPM capabilities.

The Bigfoot No. 20 runs on an advanced battery setup that includes three separate banks of 10 Odyssey Batteries, delivering 360 volts of power to propel the massive vehicle. An additional six batteries power the braking and steering systems, bringing the total number of batteries to 36, with an impressive combined weight of 623 kilograms.

So, how does Bigfoot No. 20 handle all this weight without buckling under the strain? The vehicle’s custom-designed fiberglass structure keeps the body lightweight while also providing the durability needed to endure the immense pressure during high-impact moves.

Bigfoot has long been one of the most iconic names in monster trucks, tipping the scales at nearly five tons. Bob Trent, Vice President of Bigfoot, expressed excitement about the truck’s performance, stating, “A lot of people doubted we’d even make it to the cars, let alone jump on top of them. But we just ran this truck for over 20 minutes without needing to recharge. This is only the beginning of what this truck can do.”

This groundbreaking electric monster truck is more than just a novelty. It symbolizes the growing potential of electric vehicles in all areas of motorsport, demonstrating that EV technology can withstand the extreme demands of high-powered, high-impact environments.
